Life Christian Academy (LCA), the private Christian school that opened its doors this year at Lancaster and Cedar Hill, has officially been authorized to accept funding through Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA). LCA is now listed on the state's TEFA school finder, allowing qualifying families to direct their education funding toward tuition at either campus.
TEFA was created under Senate Bill 2, passed by the Texas Legislature in 2025 and backed by an initial $1 billion appropriation. In its first year, the program drew more than 274,000 applications and awarded funding to roughly 100,000 Texas students, giving families new flexibility to choose the learning environment that best fits their child.
To be approved as a participating school, providers must meet the Texas Comptroller's eligibility standards, including state accreditation and ongoing compliance requirements, and must be verified and published in the state's TEFA school directory. Being listed on that site is the final step that allows a TEFA award to actually be used at a given school. For LCA, it means families no longer have to choose between a Christ-centered education and their family's budget.
"This approval is an open door for families who want a Christ-centered education for their children but need help making it possible," said Eddie Davis, Chief Development Officer. "Life Christian Academy partners with parents in raising kids who are academically excellent and rooted in their faith. Now, more families in Lancaster and Cedar Hill can say yes to that vision."
What This Means for Parents
-
Families who already hold a 2026–2027 TEFA award may now direct those funds toward tuition at LCA. Parents in this position are encouraged to contact LCA admissions directly to confirm their enrollment and complete the necessary steps.
-
Families who have not yet applied can plan ahead: the Comptroller's office has indicated the next TEFA application window for new applicants is expected to open in early 2027 for the 2027–2028 school year. In the meantime, families can find LCA listed by campus at the state's official school finder or contact LCA admissions with questions.
-
For the 2026–2027 school year, the Comptroller's office has set the TEFA award amount at $10,474 per private-school student, with higher amounts available for students with disabilities.
LCA offers PreK-4 for children who are 4 years old by Sept. 1. The school operates on a four-day week, Monday through Thursday, mirroring the Life School calendar.
